Default Help with "Baby" Necromancer

I call it "baby" because I'm a rather new player and my necromancer is only level 14. All the builds here have been helpful in a way but definitely geared toward the upper level player with elite skills.

I've read the builds sticky for the necro, and the other helpful stickies for building a necro but because many of those spells are unavailable to me, I have to come up with something else. I've build this based on the elite-type builds and advice from others that I've read/seen here. Currently, I can run a total of 6 minions.

Just for reference this is for PvE and I'm playing Prophecies right now (although I do have Factions installed).

I came up with this Curse throwing Minion master idea. Any ideas that do **not** include elites would be helpful. I'm currently at the "Gates of Kryta" mission.
9 death magic (8 +1)
9 soul reaping (8 + 1)
8 curses (7 +1)
I weild an Insightful Soul Spire of fortitude
Energy +10
Dark Damage 11-22 (requires 9 soul Reaping)
Health +29
Energy +5
Energy + 15
Energy regeneration -1
Damage +20

\

I put together this build to help me run minions while also quickly siphoning life off enemies to keep me alive especially if I'm fighting undead. So far it's working very well, but who knows, it might be the most awful build that makes experienced people cringe.

Any pointers would be helpful.

Thanks.

It may work well at the moment, however as you progress you realise that you'll need max minions to really be effective (unless you feel like minion bombing).

You shouldn't need both Verata's Sacrifice and Blood the Master, though.

I wouldn't sit in a +15 -1 set all the time either. Managing your energy effectively > increasing your max energy.

Try Barbs and Mark of Pain. Those work well with MMs.

Drop Suffering and Verata's.

Thanks, both of you. I dropped Verata's and Suffering. I kept Blood of the Master and I added Mark of Pain and I added one other... forgot which I added but it seems to be working well.

I just did the Gates of Kryta mission with henchmen and didn't fall below 1/4 of my health. In fact, it was an incredibly easy mission =\... the bonus was a pain because I couldn't make any minions.

I'll continue to check all the necro build threads though as it's a great way to get ideas for builds.

thanks.

Edit: P.S. A guild friend configured my staff for me. At this point in the game I have no idea how he did it or how to change it. I've looked at Guild Wiki but either they don't have the information on staff configurations (doubt that), or I don't know how to look it up (most probable).

Welcome to GW and to Necromancy.
For early Prophecies I played mostly blood based skills/builds. They seemed the best available to me at that point in the game. I didn't really get into MM or Curse builds until much later. Basically when my skill options and elites opened up.
Trying to recall what was available there(it's been about 3 years since I was in that spot myself) I would recommend a mix of Blood and Curses. Off the cuff skills like
[skill]Faintheartedness[/skill][skill]Shadow of Fear[/skill][skill]Parasitic Bond[/skill][skill]Life siphon[/skill][skill]Blood Ritual[/skill][skill]Vampiric Gaze[/skill] or probably something close. Don't forget [skill]Resurrection Signet[/skill]
Your choices are pretty limited until after the Crystal Desert when you can start adding elites into your repertoire and get some more skills to work with in each line.
If you stay with Curses and Death then the suggestions of [skill]Barbs[/skill] and [skill]Mark of Pain[/skill] are strong damage boosters for your minions and any other physical damage dealers. Be aware however that Mark of Pain does cause AI to scatter after a couple hits so use it strategically for AoE damage whereas you can spam Barbs on targets for the one target damage boost.
GL and HF

*edit*
I would not recommend a +15E/-1E regen staff as a main weapon. It is a good 4th slot weapon to swap to if you need the Energy, otherwise it's not worth losing 1/4 of your natural regeneration imo. Get a collector staff or wand and offhand for now is easiest while clearing out a zone. Once you get to the desert those items are all max level and you can look at stocking yourself with sets for each attribute line. For example A wand and offhand for 20% chance of half recharge times or cast times in Death, Blood, and Curses. Until then they wont be max Energy or damage but the other mods are the same. For better and more detailed info go to the wiki at http://gw.gamewikis.org/wiki/Main_Page
